Bloodborne Pathogens Training

This course is designed to meet OSHA guidelines and is intended for all individuals who may come into contact with blood or blood containing materials. This training will teach you how to respond if you are exposed.

Bloodborne Pathogens certification course at American Health Care Academy Online is designed for those who are exposed to blood, infectious material and other bodily fluids on the job, such as healthcare professionals, housekeeping personnel, general workplace employees, tattoo artists and more. This course certification is valid for 1 year, per OSHA guidelines. Our online bloodborne pathogens course covers topics on transmission, prevention and precautionary measures when dealing with bloodborne pathogens.

Almost six million Americans are at risk of being exposed to bloodborne pathogens at work each year. Most of these workers are in the healthcare industry who can recognize their risk. Others who are spread in different professions are at higher risk because they are not aware of bloodborne pathogens concerns. American Health Care Academy offers the bloodborne pathogens certification course to help workers in certain industries comply with the requirements of their jobs, including complete coursework and certification. It is also a precautionary measure that can help preserve the health and safety of workers.

What are the 3 main types of bloodborne pathogens?

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV) are three of the most common bloodborne pathogens from which health care workers are at risk. However, bloodborne pathogens are implicated in the transmissions of more than 20 other pathogens.(Beltrami et al 2000)

Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms that cause disease and are present in human blood. They include but are not limited to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV).

What is HIV?

HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. It damages your immune system, making it easier for you to get sick. HIV is spread during sex, but condoms can help protect you. HIV stands for “human immunodeficiency virus.” It’s a virus that can only infect humans and leads to the weakening of the immune system. The immune system is the body’s system for fighting disease. When it’s compromised or weakened, a person becomes vulnerable to all kinds of bacteria, viruses, or other agents that cause disease.
